More Affordable Housing

The National Rental Affordabilty Scheme will help build up to 50 000 new properties across Australia by 2012 which will then be rented out at a minimum 20 per cent below market rent.

The Federal Goverment is investng more than 1 billion into the scheme over the next 4 years.

1600 affordable homes were approved in Queensland in the second round of the scheme.

The scheme was created to increase the number of affordable rental properties across Australia and guarantee that they are rented to low income families.

Rents are required to be at least 20% below market value for tenants who meet the income eligibility requirements.

The scheme provides annual incentives to developers of $8672 per home indexed to the rental component o the CPI for a 10 year period.
