Changes to Body Corporate Fee Calculations

The Queensland State Government intends to make changes to the method of calculating body corporate fees for Queensland’s 350000 plus unit owners.

‘The Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997′ will be changed so that there is a more equitable way of determining the ‘shared costs’ associated with living in unit complexes.

According to the Minister for Fair Trading Peter Lawlor “…..this is a much needed change. The Act has a loophole which unfairly allowed some unit owers to get away with paying less than their fair share of body corporate fees at the expense of others”.

Mr lawlor said the government had called for public feedback before proposing changes to the way body corporate expenses are allocated.

Once passed in parliament the new rules may be effective later in 2010.
